Colleges' Concerted Campaign for Ignorance
The National Student Clearinghouse data is good, certainly better than nothing, but it’s very disappointing that a better source of information about college-going doesn’t exist yet. Laws like this make it substantially more costly and difficult to evaluate the long run impacts of our K-12 policies while providing only an illusion of increased privacy (in my opinion).
Should the federal government be pursuing a more robust dataset for college students? What about the workforce? Where should the line be drawn, both in terms of the federal government’s role and our privacy?
